Driver Education Information
General Information
The driver education program is Brown’s oldest program originating in 1996. This program has been very successful because of the professionalism of great instructors, scheduling availability of drive times and a classroom program that is serious, yet fun.
Our state-certified Driver Education program begins with 10 hours of classroom instruction at one of our 4 convenient locations. This is followed by 6 hours of one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction (3 drives of 2 hours each) with one of our 30 professional trained instructors.

Get Your Learner Permit Without Taking The Written Test
Here’s How:
- Step #1 – Once you are 15 ½ years old, attend the Brown’s 10 hour driver education class of your choice. Register for the class on the Brown’s website (brownsdriving.com).
- Step #2 – Complete your 3 behind-the-wheel drives with a Brown’s instructor and receive a Completion Certificate showing proof you have completed the state mandated driver education course. Brown’s can drive students without a Learner Permit.
- Step #3 – Take your Brown’s Completion Certificate, your I.D.’s, your Social Security number, and a parent or legal guardian (if under age 18) to a participating Tag Agency or Service Oklahoma to get your Learner Permit. The fee is $42.50.
Or Consider This:
- Brown’s always recommends taking the written test. We want students to study and learn.
- So, if taking the written test is best for you, complete the 10 hours of class at Brown’s.
- Take the written test at either Service Oklahoma (it’s free) or at an Oklahoma Vocational Center ($28.50 fee).
- Service Oklahoma appointments for the written test are currently easy to get, and walk-ins are often available. At Service Oklahoma you can take the written test and get the Learner Permit (a $42.50 fee) all in one trip. You will need your Brown’s contract, your I.D.’s, and know your Social Security number.
- You might choose to take the written test at a Vocational Center, where they do 12 tests each day, appointments are more difficult to get, and the fee is $28.50. When you pass the written test, take the results, the Brown’s contract, your Social Security number, and your I.D.’s to either Service Oklahoma or one of the select Tag Agencies who process Learner Permits (call ahead to confirm with your local Tag Agency). At the Tag Agency the fee is $42.50.
Important Intermediate License Information
Effective November 1 teens applying for an Intermediate Class D License will be required to complete a Work Zone Safety course approved by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Click here to view and complete the online course. The next step after passing the driving test is applying for the Intermediate Driver License at a Tag Agency or Service Oklahoma, which requires proof that the Work Zone Safety course has been completed. The course is free. Teens who already hold the Intermediate License are not required to complete the online course. We recommend teens take the Work Zone Safety course as early as possible in their licensing process.
Scheduling Drives
Students come from all over the state because of our ability to handle varying schedules. The power of over 30 instructors and 20 to 25 cars sets us apart. Daytime, evenings or weekends are offered for in-car training 7 days a week.
- Drive times can be scheduled through the Schedule A Drive on our website after the 10 hours of class is completed, or students may call the nearest Brown’s office to schedule drives.
- Brown’s is usually 2-3 weeks out on available drive times; however, if you are needing to complete the course quickly Brown’s will work to make that happen. And remember – Brown’s never charges extra to finish quickly.
- We pick up students at home, school, Brown’s offices, and special meeting locations for students outside our driving area. We never charge extra to pick you up at home.
- Parents of students under 18 must sign an affidavit when getting a Learner’s Permit agreeing to ride with teenager for 50 hours of driving (40 daytime, 10 nighttime). The 50 hours of drive time must be completed within 6 months or by the time they turn 18. We strongly recommend students drive daily at home.
